The inauguration at the Kiryat Arba settlement on the West Bank of a structure grotesquely called "The Hall of Culture", on the eve of the fateful vote in the UN, is a ridiculous and provocative act, designed to confront the International Community's support for Palestinian sovereignty. The real culture of Kiryat Arba consists of sanctification for the harm done to Hebron Palestinians, expressed particularly in the splendid tomb of the racist killer Baruch Goldstein, in the midst of part established by the settlement's local council and named in memory of the arch-racist Meir Kahane. That is Kiryat Arba's true hall of culture, a focus for pilgrims who seek to follow in the footsteps of Goldstein and Kahane. Such is the "culture" dominant in Kiryat Arba, a nationalist, fanatic and racist culture which seeks to crush and suppress the Arab because of being an Arab. Demonstrative acts as the inauguration of this "Hall of Culture" would not change the salient fact: in spite of all that the settlers and the government which supports the settlers can do, the International Community is going to tell them that they are living in the sovereign territory of Palestine – and to certify it most officially and by an overwhelming majority. |
