In my visit today, Tuesday, I saw rthe full horror. In about 30 buildings the windows were smashed and additional damage caused. In 15 cars the windows were smashed and tyres punctured, in two marble factories damage estimated at 150,000 Shekels was caused. Overall damage in the village is conservatively estimated at 200,000 Shekels.
The mental damage to traumatized children who cowered in fright during the settler rampage cannot be estimated in money.
According to the villagers, no less than 400 settlers had parcipated in the rampage and pogrom.

Conference in Annapolis - settler pogrom in Funduk Village

While the media spotlight is directed at the state leaders setting off to Annapolis, uttering peace cliches, the settlers conduct a pogrom against a Palestinian civil population, in a campaign of indiscriminate violent revenge at the killing of their fellow - all, with the active support of the soldiers under the authority of Ehud Barak and Ehud Olmert.

Yesterday, Saturday Nov. 24, at about 21.00, dozens of settlers raided the Palestinian village of al-Funduk, which is on the road from Qualkilia to Nablus, near the settlement of Kdumim.

During two hours of pogrom, the glasses were smashed in the windows of cars, houses and factories, car tyres were punctured and raw materials and equipment were destroyed in the industrial zone.

This violent and primitive vigilante act was intended to terrorize a civilian population.

According to the testimony of a villager living near the "Sahish HaShalom" (Peace Marble) factory, all windows in the factory were smashed and marble plates were broken. The villager told that soldiers not only accompanied the rampaging settlers and lighted their way, pointing out windows which were not yet smashed. One soldier even helped settlers to move a large marble plate, which was then smashed to bits. The damage is estimated at 150,000 Shekels.

The behaviour of the military forces, which did not prevent this violent assault taking part under their nose - and with the active participation of some of the soldiers - needs to be thoroughly investigated.

Instead of stopping the settler rampage, the army "responded" by imposing a curfew over the attacked village until late in the morning.

Representatives of 'Yesh Din", an association involved in legal help to Palestinians who were the victims of settler violence, are present in the village since the morning, collecting testimonies.

Towards the weekend, a solidarity visit by Israeli peace activists is planned.
