Gush Shalom, the Israeli Peace Bloc, along with peace forces throughout the world, welcomes the Palestinian unity agreement.
In this agreement, Hamas undertakes to respect the Oslo accords, which are based on the mutual recognition of the State of Israel and the Palestinian people. The new Palestinian government, which will include all the main political representatives of the Palestinian people, is a credible partner.
The agreement was achieved under the auspices of the King of Saudi Arabia, the initiator of the Arab Peace Plan. This plan assures Israel of recognition by the entire Arab world, in return for the withdrawal from the occupied territories and the establishment of the State of Palestine.
Gush Shalom calls upon the government of Israel to put an end to the blockade on the Palestinian people, and to start practical and speedy negotiations for a peace agreement.
Another window of opportunity has been opened. Let us not miss this chance!
