Walking Barefoot in Jerusalem and Rome The war with Iran and the renewed front with Lebanon are increasing the fear, fatigue, and concern for life here. In this reality, it is easy to feel that the future is closing in and that there is no room to talk about solutions. But it is precisely from within this reality that we continue. We do not give up, and we do not stop for a moment from advancing toward the goal for which the "Women Wage Peace" movement was established—a future of security, political agreements, and hope for both peoples. Specifically now, as hearts bleed once again and war rages around us—our voice must be heard louder than ever. We are not stopping! Join us for a barefoot march in Jerusalem 24.3 | 16:00-19:30 | Jaffa Gate, Jerusalem The march in Jerusalem is part of an international movement whose main event will take place on the same day in Rome, where Israeli and Palestinian mothers will march together barefoot in a powerful call to world leaders to promote diplomatic agreements and restore hope for a future of security and freedom for both peoples. Walking barefoot is a symbolic act of direct contact with the earth—ground that is soaked in pain and blood, but also in hope. Through this march, we express a deep commitment to life, security, and the choice of a diplomatic path that will end the cycle of bloodshed. Additional marches and events will take place in other locations around the world—in New York, Los Angeles, Sunnyvale (California), Oak Island Beach in North Carolina, San Antonio in Texas, Ugano in Japan, Bonn, Münster and Berlin in Germany, Brussels in Belgium, Dublin in Ireland, Sydney in Australia, Burgundy in France, and more! Come march with us in Jerusalem! Women and men, activists all—together we will make a clear voice heard: no war will extinguish our demand for peace and security in Israel through diplomatic agreements. Join us in white and turquoise 24.3 | 16:00-19:30 | Jaffa Gate, Jerusalem 16:00 – Gathering at the Jaffa Gate plaza and departing for a barefoot march along the Jaffa Gate promenade. 17:00 – Rally and joint viewing of the live broadcast of the march from Rome. The march in Jerusalem will take place in accordance with Home Front Command guidelines. We continue our planning in the hope and belief that by this date the war will be behind us—and with the knowledge that our call for change is urgent and important in any situation. International Partnerships and Diplomatic Events The events are taking place in close cooperation with the American women’s organization Vital Voices, which operates an extensive network of women activists worldwide. About a year ago, the leaders of Vital Voices approached us and the Women of the Sun (our Palestinian partners) with a bold idea: to amplify the voices of Israeli and Palestinian mothers demanding an end to the conflict and the opening of a diplomatic path to ensure a secure and free future for both peoples. Their goal was to bring the "Mothers' Call" — the joint call of Women Wage Peace and the Palestinian Women of the Sun—to every corner of the globe. Since that appeal, we have worked for many months together with Women of the Sun and partners around the world to turn this vision into reality. Alongside the march in Rome, several diplomatic and public events will take place: representatives from the movements will appear before the Italian Parliament, participate in a roundtable with the WIIS (Women In International Security) organization, and take part in the Rome Marathon events—on the main stage and throughout the race. The highlight will be a personal meeting between representatives of Women Wage Peace and Women of the Sun with Pope Leo, where we will present the Mothers' Call to him and invite him to support it. At the same time, international support for this move is expanding: the Nobel Women’s Initiative, representing nearly all living female Nobel Peace Prize laureates, has announced that it is joining as a supporter of the march. This is a tremendous opportunity for Women Wage Peace and Women of the Sun to strengthen our shared Mothers' Call on the international stage! You are invited to join us in Jerusalem, Rome, or other marches around the world. Join us in Rome, Jerusalem, or in marches across the globe! Also in the Movement: The Women Wage Peace Public Council Sets Out! Alongside the growing international support, the Women Wage Peace Public Council convened for the first time in mid-February. More than 70 women and men from across Israeli society—from various religions and fields of endeavor, including culture and art, academia, social activity, field work, activism, and more—responded to our invitation. They joined a supportive framework aimed at strengthening the movement's activities and its influence on the Israeli public. In the first meeting, we presented the updated strategic plan of Women Wage Peace and held an open conversation, receiving good advice and significant "tailwind" from people who believe in the importance of our path and the movement's ability to exert influence. The Public Council will meet twice a year, and its members will accompany us along the way with advice, connections, and by deepening the public impact of Women Wage Peace. For us, this is an important reinforcement—and further proof that there is a broad community in Israel that believes the time for change has come. |
